AITA for exposing my husband’s affair during an office confrontation instead of handling it privately?
I (32F) started noticing strange behavior from my husband (34M) after he began staying late with his coworker (29F) from his marketing team. My best friend (31F) and my sister (30F) both told me I was being paranoid, while my boss (45M) hinted that office rumors were getting worse. I started checking his phone at night and noticed deleted messages, and one evening I saw him whispering outside saying he couldn’t keep hiding it much longer. When I finally confronted him at home, he denied everything, but my friend unexpectedly arrived with screenshots, and the coworker was called in to explain in front of everyone. Things escalated quickly as my husband tried to grab the phone, my sister stepped in to stop him, and my boss demanded honesty right there in the room. Just as everyone turned toward the coworker, my husband tried to shut everything down, but the coworker looked at me, took a shaky breath, and began explaining what had really been happening between them over the past months, revealing details I had never been told in front of everyone present.
The coworker admitted the relationship had been going on for almost half a year and that my husband had been promising to “sort things out at home” while keeping me completely in the dark. He also said the late-night work excuses were mostly cover stories to meet up.
My husband immediately tried to interrupt, saying it was “taken out of context,” but the screenshots and call logs made it impossible to deny. My boss ended up stepping in and formally documenting everything since it was now affecting the workplace environment, and both of them were placed under internal investigation.
I left the house that night and stayed with my friend while my sister helped me pack essentials later. My family is divided—my sister supports me fully, but my mother thinks I should have handled it privately instead of involving the office and “humiliating him.”
My husband keeps insisting I destroyed his career and reputation by letting it play out publicly.
AITA for exposing everything in front of everyone instead of dealing with it one-on-one?
